Hope for Mexico - Archery Club Ministry

Scott and Isabel Somerville are YWAM missionaries in Michoacan, Mexico working full-time with a people group called the Purépechas. In 2019 they began an archery club ministry, as an attempt to involve children and youth in the community of Capacuaro and teach values, discipline, and focus. Their goal is to help them discover their inherent value as children of God, and encourage them to be agents of change within their community. Historically, the Purépechas are remembered as being expert archers in warfare as well as hunting. And this ministry has generated a lot of interest in both children and youth.

Over the past year and a half they have been working with 10 - 15 boys using DIY equipment. In March 2021, Centershot Ministries, a Christian archery ministry based out of WI, USA, partnered with the Somervilles helping them train and certify local ministry members as Basic Archery Instructors and provide them with a few Genesis Bows and targets. Darell Freeman, director of the Royal Rangers Shooting Sports Program, is also partnering with the Somervilles.
