More About Abigail Ministries
Abigail Ministries has operated continuously since 1987 by Max and Hellen Guldner out of Almere, the Netherlands. We have a long affiliation with Hillcrest Covenant Church as it started with Max and Hellen providing counseling to a missionary family from Hillcrest, stationed in the Netherlands, who had lost a new-born daughter named Abigail.
Abigail Ministries provides free counseling and intensive psycho-therapeutic care to Missionaries in the field who have encountered significant trauma due to medical emergencies, children adapting to the new environment, marital strain, and so on and have nowhere else to turn. It is an international and interdenominational ministry, and clients have ranged in age from 6 to 89 years.
There is never a charge for these services, and often the missionaries’ sending agencies are unaware of the crisis or this intervention. Max and Hellen have never accepted support for their personal expenses. As a result, 100% of the gifts go directly to the ministry’s Mercy Fund for missionaries financial needs which include medical, living, educational and emergency expenses.
Long-term missionary families raise $400,000 or more to launch. While we have no way of knowing the exact impact, we estimate that 5% of the families we serve would have left the field if not for this care which equates to about $7M per year in kingdom impact.
